The first two's days have arguably the best racing and gets straight into the action with a Grade 1 Hurdle
Tuesday 13th March
1.30 WILLIAM HILL SUPREME NOVICES’ HURDLE (GRADE 1) (CLASS 1) (4YO PLUS)
Darlan is the one that stands out in this race especially as Simonsig has opted for the Neptune. Nicky Henderson's horse was a faller when travelling well last time out at Newbury but had won all 4 of his previous races.
2.05 RACING POST ARKLE CHALLENGE TROPHY CHASE (GRADE 1) (CLASS 1) (5YO PLUS)
Sprinter Sacre (10/11 with PP) is the one to beat and if Barry Gerraghty thinks this is one of the best horses his ever ridden. You must take notice. The odds won't be pretty and they will get even shorter so it might be worth taken up Paddy Powers offer of your money back if your horse loses to Sprinter Sacre. Al Ferof would be the obvious choice 9/4 with Paddy power. Slightly shorter then elsewhere but it does take Sprinter Sacre out of the equation?
2.40 JLT SPECIALTY HANDICAP CHASE (GRADE 3) (CLASS 1) (5YO PLUS)
3.20 STAN JAMES CHAMPION HURDLE CHALLENGE TROPHY (GRADE 1) (CLASS 1) (4YO PLUS)
Another corker of a race, the third grade of the day in a row to really get the festival going. Again I can't see past the favourite if he gets a clean run. Hurricane Fly has 11 wins out of 12 over jumps and should retain his title. He comes into this race in great form after winning last time out at Leopardstown without even leaving the bridle. The two main contenders are Binocular and Zarkander. Binocular seems to be hitting form just at the right time while Zarkander has won all 4 of his races.
4.40 OLBG Mares Hurdle Grade 2
Quevega ½ with Bet 365, Probably the shortest runner of the festival, might be worth sticking in a yankee.
5.15 PULTENEY LAND INVESTMENTS NOVICES’ HANDICAP CHASE (LISTED) (CLASS 1) (5YO PLUS)
Wednesday 14th March
1.30 DIAMOND JUBILEE NATIONAL HUNT CHASE (AMATEUR RIDERS’ NOVICES’ CHASE) (CLASS 2) (5YO PLUS)
Won last time out comfortably with ruby Walsh on board.
2.05 Neptune Investment Novices Hurdle Grade 1 – 2m 5f
Simonsig and Boston Bob are the main contenders for this one but I'm opting for Boston Bob at 11/4 with Stan James Bet Now. Tip from Colin O'Sullivan. The Willie Mullins Stable could well have another winner here.
2.40 RSA CHASE (GRADE 1) (CLASS 1) (5YO PLUS)
Grand Crus is the favourite here although at the time of writing this there was still the possibility of him running in the Gold Cup. We'll know on Monday. So if he doesn't run there's still a very attractive field to choose from. I like the look of First Lieutentant as he won the Neptune last year, loves this time of year and Cheltenham won't hold any surprises for him.
3.20 sportingbet QUEEN MOTHER CHAMPION CHASE (GRADE 1) (CLASS 1) (5YO PLUS)
Yet another race with some big names. Sizing Europe is another horse running to retain his title. He won't have it all his own way with the likes of Big Zeb , Finians Rainbow and Somersby around.
4.00 CORAL CUP (GRADE 3 HANDICAP HURDLE) (CLASS 1) (4YO PLUS)
Only 2 wins from 2 but won impressively last time out at Newbury leaving Nampour in the shade.
4.40 FRED WINTER JUVENILE HANDICAP HURDLE (GRADE 3) (CLASS 1) (4YO ONLY)
5.15 WEATHERBYS CHAMPION BUMPER (STANDARD OPEN NH FLAT RACE) (GRADE1) (CLASS 1) (4YO TO 6YO)
Another Mullins horse with a great chance.
