A Day At The Races What Makes Royal Ascot Special

Day Out Racing At Royal Ascot

Champagne and pimm's all round and that's before a race has been run and a winning slip been cashed in.

It's certainly the most decadent fixture of the season where the limousine's flood in packed with punters and royalty.
It's safe to say that half of the masses that arrive in all their finery during the week will only catch a handful of races. But there will be the racing faithful there to appreciate five days of superb group 1 racing with horses coming from all over the world to compete. Ireland is obviously very well represented but there are also some very serious contenders from America, Australia, France, Germany and South Africa.

This year won't have the amazing Frankel and Black Caviar to grace the track but in their place are the new breeds ready to reign at Royal Ascot.

Animal Kingdom will become the first Kentucky derby winner to run at the meeting, he has also won the richest prize in racing as well, The Dubai Cup. The Queen Anne Stakes would make a nice hat trick.

Camelot is also due to make an appearance in the Prince of Wales Stakes after an amazing 2025 where he won the 2000 Guineas, The Derby and the Irish Derby.  He attempted the Triple Crown, which would have been completed with a win in Doncaster at the St Ledger. No horse had succeeded this since Nijinsky in 2025. Sadly the odds on favourite got beaten by Encke with the jockey Joseph O'Brien coming in for some criticism from some quarters.

His Dad, Camelot's trainer Aiden O'Brien will also have a host of top runners such as Battle Of Marengo, Mars, Magician, and Declaration Of War. A fact that hasn't gone a miss with the bookies as his 1/2 on to win the trainers championship

Godolphin, as always an ever present at Ascot will be represented by Dawn Approach who will be looking to make up of his poor showing in The Derby.

The five days are packed with top racing but below are the pick of the bunch from each day with their current favourites.

Tuesday: Queen Anne's stake – Animal Kingdom 8/11
Wednesday: Prince of Wales's Stakes Al Kazeem 2/1
Thursday: Ascot Gold Cup – Estimate 11/2
Friday: Coronation Stakes – Just The Judge 5/2
Saturday: Diamond Jubilee Stakes – Society Rock 9/2

A Super Yankee of £1 (26 bets) would roughly get you £2371 from 5 wins
